Our client is a successful English-Hungarian software development company which is a spinoff of an organization with 10+ years of knowledge of this business segment. They appeared in The Times, won Startup awards and had already had two successful crowdsourced funding rounds and finally a significant investment in December, 2016. After an incredibly successful year in 2016 they are ready to grow further.
The application is a mobile CRM with invoicing capabilities, calendar and a lot of other functions that fits to a very specific user group and exploits the opportunities a mobile phone provides as a tool. The target customers are field service workers ranging from electricians to interior designers. They do site visits, and later on offer bids on the work, and for that they take photos, do measurements and talk over the details with the homeowners, customers, work on the site and move around a lot to get the needed materials. So most of the time they are out of office. If they even have one. This is a big market segment in the UK and globally, too. They have thousands of paying users by now, and being a B2B Startup, that’s a lot. Most of them in the UK but there are users even from Australia or Nigeria. So the application has to be mobile and secure, being prepared to lost/stolen phones and that the customers demand very simple user interfaces.
As member of the development team you will be responsible to design the new functions from UX point of view, so that the app is nice to look at and easy to use. You will also be responsible for implementing these designs and do some site-build tasks. The team said they really enjoy that they can directly have a say in what the application can do and which functions are actually developed from the list of ideas. Some of the new features include the integration with some major accounting software, or developing a product catalog. It is not expected to create major new UI elements, the focus is more on functional design.
- Some UX design experience (Mobile) – you don’t have to be superpro, but you need to be able to think with the users’ heads
- Advanced CSS3 knowledge (you know all about Less and Sass and that stuff and you can certainly position absolutely anything to the centre 😀 )
- Knowledge of responsive design (if you have ever done a mobile app, that also has a web version, that would be good…), although, this app had a mobile version long before it had a web version.
- Advanced English both oral and written.
You are an ideal candidate if you can work independently, as this is a small team and there won’t be too much guidance. Also, there’s lot of trial and error and some of the ideas will not be implemented eventually, but that’s ok for you. You are really keen on creating quality stuff but you are not the military QA type with rigid dogmas… (We leave that to the QA team. There is a QA team.) This environment simply requires to be “fast to market” and “first to market”. You got to be a quick learner, flexible, open and with good humour. This team is diverse and supports diversity.
